Almost there

January 31, 2011
SO CLOSE! I've spent a really nice day in London and wandered around with some of the Kenya/Tanzania group: Judith, Tudor, Brandon, and Tudor's Romanian friends who are studying in London and were very patient with us as we bumbled along with our large carry-ons and my guitar. We all had breakfast at a cute pub, then walked through London's chinatown type area and ended up passing Big Ben and crossing the bridge to the London Eye. Great use of a 12 hour layover! Now I am on my last plane ride for a long time, and in a few short hours will be landing in Africa!!!
It's been a great ride: I'm sitting next to a fantastic guy who grew up in Tanzania until he was 17, and now many years later leads photographic safaris there and in Kenya and other places in Africa. He's been showing me amazing pictures he's taken and telling me all about the animals and how to photograph them well, and making me even more excited/THRILLED to get there and experience it all myself! We have also had quite an amusing time making fun of the unending, slurred speech that the cabin manager made at the beginning of the flight and lasted just about until the middle of it. He seemed quite tipsy himself as he warned us all about not drinking too much alcohol on the flight. Doesn't give me too much confidence, but the ride has been smooth so far so hopefully he and the pilot were not at the same party this afternoon :P
Off to try to sleep.
